LOTS BREWING: The Television Series

A Coming-of-Age Tale About Those First Post-College Years

LOTS BREWING is an hour-long dramedy centered around the founding and operation of a craft brewery in music-loving, beer-crazed Asheville, a vibrant and artistic enclave nestled in the glorious Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina.

Hey! Welcome to my site.

The tale I tell of the founding of the Land of the Sky Brewing Company provides a window into the passion-driven world of craft beer making at both the home and commercial levels.

The pilot episode (which I would love for you to read) sets up the series by establishing the dynamic between the main characters:

Jim Adcock is the “idea man” whose Vision is at the heart of the series; the sheltered love of his life Megan, a girl next door who is brilliant but directionless; his roommate and would-be business partner Tex, who is a local home brewing legend and talented musician who is as unmotivated as he is talented; and the Spencer twins’ parents, no-nonsense money manager Thom and his well-meaning yet often caustic party planner wife, Jillian.

Taking place in a short span on either side of Megan’s long-time-coming graduation from UNC Asheville, Episode 1 focusing on the hot-button topic of whether or not to the would-be founders of the Land of the Sky Brewing Co. should solicit a start-up loan from the Spencer twins wealthy parents.

Future episodes range far and wide as each character’s life personal and professional life unfolds to reveal their strengths, weaknesses, virtues, and shortcomings.

But no matter how far afield the plot lines take us — from the banking institutions of the Cayman Islands, to the elite college campuses of Cambridge, to the deepest recesses of off-the-grid Pisgah National Forest or the jet-setting country club scene of the Boston suburbs — we always return the boys’ West Asheville couch.

There we will invariably find our lovably flawed, stuck-in-neutral Founders bantering about life (and how to live it), talking a bunch of smack (while playing endless video games), taking numerous bingers, and knocking back more than a few bottles of their latest home-brewed elixir.

Once Upon A Time, Not Very Long Ago

In the idyllic town of Asheville, NC a young couple is faced with life after college. Megan wants to help her boyfriend, Jim, and his roommate, Tex (who is also her twin brother and really named Michael) take their home beer brewing hobby to the next level.

Her plan is to secure a loan from her wealthy parents, but Jim is reluctant to agree. Tired of being an underemployed waiter, the idea of opening a craft beer microbrewery is certainly appealing to him, but he fears that with the money would definitely come with strings attached and probably cause trouble for his romantic relationship.

Entertainment plays a central role in the way our characters run Land of the Sky Brewing

A large meeting place in the taproom would be filled with tables and many people playing board games and cards. Patrons will be able to play the usual suspects of darts, billiards, and ping pong, but there’s also bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits, basketball goals, and cornhole boards to enjoy.

A trivia night would bring in both regulars and a revolving cast of visitors. The premise provides the opportunity to introduce many additional characters who come through the brewery or who work there.

The Asheville Performing Arts Center

One might fairly wonder, “Is the LOTS Brewing building a craft brewery with a performing arts center attached, or a performing arts center with a craft brewery attached?”

The answer really depends on which entrance you use since it’s both! Live entertainment being performed on the show would be a central focus of the series over time, more often than not in the form of name brand bands, but not exclusively as comedians, lecturers, and other acts and entertainers the founders want to support will also be booked regularly.
